Thanks for stopping by. Here’s a breakdown of me, my life, my favorite foods, and online engagement as a #futuresociallibrarian
My name is Alex and I am a current student at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro in the Masters of Library and Information Science program. I love libraries, I love working for libraries, and I can’t wait to be a real-life librarian somewhere. Literally anywhere, please hire me.
Anyway, I graduated from Roanoke College in 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Arts in History and moved to NYC shortly thereafter in a whirlwind after getting my first job. Yay! I spend most of my free time reading, doing homework, tweeting about libraries, and eating. My favorite thing to do in this city is eat because hello what else would you do in the most culturally-rich metropolitan area in the U.S. Because of this, the majority of my engagement on social media is food-related and will be a common theme of this blog. Did you have lunch already?
My experience with social media has been mediocre at best…I don’t get a lot of online interaction with peers, dogs, companies, or really anyone for that matter. I post because I want to and not to portray an in-achievable version of myself for others to feed off of. I’m a big proponent of creating or reposting content that makes you happy. This means that the content I post are things I like or feel strongly about, i.e. food, libraries, and saving the earth. Climate change is real!
I promise this blog will not be preachy, but I will say what I feel 100% of the time. A hot dog is NOT a sandwich and Pepsi is better than Coke, don’t @ me.
There are a few things I want to achieve with this blog…
- Explore the pros and cons of social media
- Discuss the ways libraries can utilize social media to increase engagement between patrons and the library
- Define a Virtual Community and create one using this platform!
- Talk about what I learned in this wonderful class, LIS 674 Issues in the Virtual Community
So if any of this remotely interests you, keep reading! I hope you enjoy the blog and at the very least are amused by my ramblings. Let me know how you feel about it or if you’re learning anything by posting in the comments! 🙂
