Ahh…my first experience with web design. WordPress, you’ve been good to me but frankly there’s a steep learning curve with you. Getting started is easy but customizing everything is a little trickier in my opinion. I couldn’t get a lot of my url’s to embed and sometimes the images I include on the blog posts show up in weird places on the page rather than at the bottom. However, for this project it definitely fit the bill. Having a website, or a centralized location for all of your musings, contact information, and information-sharing efforts has benefits both on an individual level and an institutional level. In 2019, you’d be hard-pressed to find a library without a website. Not only can it provide a clear channel for online communication, but also link to all of the social media platforms in use by the library as well. There is a tremendous amount of information to include on a website including hours of operation, library staff contact info, a search engine for the database, an image gallery of recent events, or links to sign up for book clubs. Using a site-builder like WordPress makes having a website more accessible to the average person. You don’t have to know any specific code language and the site-builder is free for the basic tools. The workload could be shared by a few staff or one web-master librarian. The choice is yours! With great power comes great responsibility.
