Tumblr and I have a love/hate relationship. It’s this amazing site that curates magical images and content for it’s readers to scroll through until you literally run out of posts tagged as #library and then you find yourself still on the site three hours later when you should have been cleaning your apartment. Or does that only happen to me?
Regardless, the site is great and can be an awesome tool for not only creating your personal brand but for libraries to create their brand or intended public perception as well. Are you trying to draw in teens for a dying summer reading program? Drumming up interest in the library community about new literacy initiative? This might be the place for you. Listen to your audience and tap into the things that interest them most; whether it be images of libraries around the world, a latte next to a cat on a library desk (my dream come true), or a stack of books that the library just purchased. Taking pictures on your phone and re-sharing content on your blog is literally free and an easy way to build your library’s brand, whatever that may be.
